Logic in buying a camcorder?? Opinions needed

by BigKen116 / March 12, 2008 2:00 AM PDT

So I want to buy a camcorder. I have a question regarding buying a new cam or an older, used cam. Here's the deal. I am trying to decide between the following options.
#1 - buy a brand new Canon HV20, $750 from a licensed dealer at the moment. Great camera, HD, awesome.
# 2 - a friend of mine has a used, but like brand new Panasonic PV-DV953. Now this camcorder came out in 03-04?, but at the time was $1500. A super duper cam considered a prosumer. Now this is only SD, but is one helluva camcorder.
I can get it used for $450.

The one thing holding me back is the whole HD thing. I'm afraid if I buy the SD I'll regret it later. BUT, for $450 I could just hold off and buy a better HD camera in a couple years when the market is more saturated. Then again, have you seen the video taken buy the Canon HV20? It's amazing.

Question is: should I go brand new, Canon HD, or go with the older SD camcorder for less $$$???

If you dont mind me asking BigKen, what did you choose or end up buying? And what are your thoughts on what you decided?
I'm very close to making a decision on the Panasonic PV-DV953 and your quick,if possible, reply would be most appreciated.
Thanks mate
