logging problem

sony vaio NR27G ,window vista home premium, with 200GB hard disk
after entering password for logging my screen turns black with just cursor on it
can any one help

Is that the BIOS password?

If so this could be a sign of a failed OS or hard drive. Your post is incomplete.

The 2 posters above assume, respectively:
- it's the BIOS password you forgot and needs to reset
- it's the Windows password you forgot and needs to reset

What I read:
- You get the normal Windows logon screen
- You enter a valid password for the chosen user
- You get a black screen only

So before going into possible solution, can you first be more clear about your problem?
