Logging in

Dec 4, 2004 12:26PM PST

Whoops, I suspect that I did not save cookies, but as someone else may be as silly as me, I thought I'd confess and say how I got around the problem.

I tried logging in as usual from MSN and had apparent success, except that I just got "Welcome: logged in" instead of the usual "Welcome: keyhoti".

Well I tried to reply to a post and was refered to my profile page, which asked me to update - user name was blank - so I entered "keyhoti" and got "that name is already in use".

Thus I modified it slightly to "keyhoti2", because I didn't want to confuse people, perhaps mainly myself.

Seems odd tho' that I could access my profile and so at least mostly log in.

Keyhoti, I'll Bet....

...that you can still log in using your original log in name. Normally, it something that you've done wrong, such as type with all "CAPITAL" letters. Deleting the cookie shouldn't cause your log in name or password to change. Finding one of your old posts and then clicking on your original user name, it still shows the old profile.

In order to check, log out of your current "Keyhoti2" username by clicking on the "Logout" in "Member Login" section. Access the page again and try using your original user name. It should work correctly. Your choice.

Hope this helps.

I tried Grif, but had no success.

Come to think: the trouble may have arisen out of my wife and I sharing the one account on our computer, albeit with different email accounts.

Suits us fine - she uses it (well so do I) and I try to keep it running OK ... well I've always liked the "mechanics" of things, though never much of the electronic variety until getting our beast about 18 months ago.

Anyway unless another problem arises and if it doesn't matter if there's a "dead keyhoti" profile in the system ... which I've just applied to "keyhoti2" ... I think I'll muddle along as-is, pending your opinion.

Keyhoti, No Problem As To Which Name You Use.....
Dec 6, 2004 12:34AM PST

...but it should make no difference on which account you are using on the computer. The log in is only determined by having the correct e-mail address/userID and password typed into the log in box. As long as those are there, you can access your account from anywhere in the world and from any computer/account you choose. A new cookie would be created on the computer or user account at that time.

Although we prefer users to stick with one username, your new one will work fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest Grif.

What you've said confirmed what I thought, but didn't know for sure.

Yeah on accessing Cnet I use my wife's account, because she is the one who gets our Cnet bulletins in her email account.

In any case it was a surprised when I logged-in and found that I, as keyhoti, had disappeared ... but was logged-in in all respects bar making posts.

Panic set in (lol): what was I going to do with my life if I couldn't display my ignorance in public any more!??

Anyhow: "keyhoti is dead. Long live keyhoti2."

It ain't bust now, so I won't try to fix it.
