Log On Problem

Feb 3, 2004 8:28PM PST

When I tried to access this site just now, my firewall kept alerting me that Cnet was asking for my Social Security number, which I have blocked in NPF.
This has never happened before on this site.

When I was young, many. many years ago, my cousin used to sing the song Marianna in Hungarian.

Hi,

While waiting for answer of Lee Koo, try all or any of the following:

1. Try reviewing the list of information that you've entered for NPF to protect (if any) in NPF>Privacy Control>Private Information.

2. Try unchecking "web" under 'Protect this private information when using' then access this site again. See if NPF will alert you again. Doing this will let you find out whether the information you've entered is the cause.

3. Review the Logs of your NPF for 'Private Information' by launching Log Viewer then click on 'Private Information'.

Let us know what did you find out Happy

That is weird, CNET would never ask for something like your SSN
Feb 4, 2004 12:38AM PST

I'm clueless on this one, I have to submit this to someone to look into. Since you've blocked it, are you still able to login as usual to post and use the forums as usual with no viewing problems, etc...?

Please give as much details as you could possibly supply. So I can forward it to someone. CNET would never ask for something like this so I'm almost certain your firewall has somehow made a mistake.

thanks,
-Lee

i have never been asked for my SSN although I am behind both, the software firewall KPF v 2.1.5 and hardware firewall by SMC.
login asks for my email address and I do not even have to type it in.
Placing the cursor in the spot triggers both username and password.
a delightful system.

Lee, it didn't happen after that one time, so I think maybe my computer just had indigestion.

Let me know if it happens again

I'm hoping it's just a hiccup on your computer.

thanks!
