Log off the internet

Mar 1, 2004 2:24AM PST

I have a Windows Me box with dial-up connection to local
isp. The system absolutely refuses to disconnect the
dialup connection when I am done. The only way out is
to shutdown the machine. Any suggestions on where I
can look to find out why the dial-up disconnect is not working?
Thanks
Jim

Today's new pests and parasites can have this effect. Kazaa for instance is another pest about this.

Parasite removal programs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).

The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

PS. All the tools are free.

Thanks for the info on deleting pests. We found 2
and zapped them, but are still having an occasional
problem with the system not allowing to log off the
internet. The svchost.exe file sometimes crashes, and
then it's reboot time to get off the internet.
What can I do to repair that file?
Thanks

I did not try the CWshredder tool. The link keeps
comming up with a russian site from which I am unable to
read which link to use to download the tool.

You may want to seek local help.

I reread my post and noted to use http://www.google.com to find a tool if the link was incorrect. I found CWSHREDDER with Google without any effort (it was the first link.)

I also noted a worm on your machine and you seem to not be responding to this issue.

If you don't want to deal with the issues, just take this information in these posts and hand it to a local support person. Not everyone wants to deal with these bugs.

I apologize on that issue. I am dealing with the
worm and I very much appreciate your suggestions.
They have been very helpful. I should have thought
to google the CWSHREDDER myself. The frustration of
dealing with these d**n worms is causing tunnel vision
to the overall issue....
