Locking threads

Why can't the moderators lock old threads? For example, HP Pavilion F1703 TFT Monitor Blackout is over a year old with 280 posts to date. Unless all the posts are at the end of the thread, they are nearly impossible to find. While I understand the reason for replying to an existing CURRENT thread makes more sense than starting a new one, I would think that a new thread on a similar subject would make sense at this point.

While this belongs in the Forum Feedback, here's why.

We have a few repeating issues that are best left open rather than locked.

The prime example is the "Leave the PC power on or off" question. If we closed that discussion it would be asked and a new hundred count thread would occur.

So to slow forum bloat, it's left open and any new/same question is directed there.

In the case of the monitor thread, it's a GOLD MINE of good information, links, PICTURES of how to fix the issue. Have it float to the top is a good thing.
