Locking a file on a DFS environment

Feb 28, 2007 12:59AM PST

It seems that file locking mechanism is not working on a DFS environment. For example, when user A opens a document and user B opens the same document - user B does not get a message that the file is already in use user B and only view the document but no editing is allowed.

How do I configure it so that user B will be locked out of the file and can only view the document?

Solution for DFS File Locking
Apr 11, 2010 10:12PM PDT

In order to be able to lock files when they are in use, you will have to look at a third party solution. Peer Software has a PeerLock software which works great with DFS. It locks a file on all branch offices when opened by a user. Once the user closes the file, the lock will be released and other users will be able to modify the file. This minimizes version conflict.

You can check out the solution here: http://www.peersoftware.com/solutions/high_availability/dfs_file_locking.aspx

I hope this helps.
