Locked threads, deleted posts, and message marking

Jul 9, 2007 8:30AM PDT

Does anyone know if message marking is affected when posts in a thread are pulled or it's locked? I often see red dots next to threads that show no unread posts. These are threads I have visited and cleared but come back with red dots. This includes locked threads. I am thinking that, if a thread is cleaned up and locked, it comes back with a red dot even though I see no individual posts marked as unread. Is this the case?

If Lee edits a post it will display the red dot and the submission date will be changed, but locking threads and deleting posts has no effect. Message marking remains curious, though, and I find myself re-reading posts every now and then. Seems to be a bug that no matter how much they work on just won't go away.

Rats! Thought I was onto something

What I notice is that I cannot just read any already greyed out post to clear the red dot. I need to find the newed post by date/time and re-read that one to clear the dot.

that if you complain about the message marking, they try things to it, it gets worse. No backup to return it to the way it was.

I have learned to be quiet. Sometimes it may be because the forum locked up and went down. Seems to be fewer that it used to be. Say nothing and walk away and the forums will not get messed up as bad. I just live with it.
