Question

locked out!

Dec 11, 2012 2:52AM PST

I have an Alienware MX17 (core i7, windows 7, 16G ram) and have started to have problems with it recently.
If I lock the computer (ctrl+alt+del then lock computer) when I come back to it, the keyboard stops functioning, but the mouse pointer is still opperational.
What's going on?
Any ideas as to whats happened?

It does happen a lot.

Computers, even today can do that and we get to reboot. I'm encountering folk that are very concerned about the occasional crash and I discover they haven't be around very long.

Tell more. Also if this happened since day one, you have a warranty issue.

Hi Bob.

This has only started recently and occurs every time I lock the computer.
I did a factory restore, but this hasn't helped.

Thanks for replying.

Since a factory restore fails.

That usually points to a hardware issue. I have to accept your word that you did not install anything else and have the current BIOS and default settings. Plus I can't guess if there are USB or extra things plugged in.

Sorry to read your reply as it's back to Dell.
