local HD channels

by TSmith111 / February 6, 2010 4:37 AM PST

I recently bought a Samsung LN S4041D tv from a friend. I know that it's supposed to have an internal tuner that allows you to get local network HD channels over the air. (My Phillips tv has that feature, and picks up those stations in HD with no problem.)

But so far I haven't been able to get the Samsung to do the same. Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried the Cable+Air option in the Auto Program function. (ANd I've also noticed that the Signal Strength option is greyed out - don't know if this has any bearing on the issue.)

THanks in advance.

Tom

TSmith111,

What happens if you switch the option to just AIR? Are you able to get HD channels? And how is the tuner connected? Do you have a co-ax running to the input, or do you have an antenna?

If I set it to just Air, then it programs a number of local channels, but none in HD. As far as the tuner, I'm not sure I understand. I have a cable running into the jack marked 'Cable', but doesn't the fact that the there's an internal tuner mean that it wouldn't need to be connected to anything?

TSmith111,

The internal tuner doesn't mean that there's an internal antenna, which is required to receive local HD OTA programming. The option to connect the tuner to AIR and us an antenna, or connect to cable and get the cable programming may not intersect.

Do you also have a jack marked AIR, or is that shared with the cable?

Hi - I there are two cable jacks on the tv - one marked Cable and one marked Air. So were you saying that I wouldn't be able to receive local HD channels OTA with just the TV and no external devices?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
