Since NIS is creating an issue, we can uninstall it, but use other methods to protect the machine.
1. "Enable Microsoft's Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) or another host-level packet filtering program to block incoming connections to port 135/TCP. Information about ICF is available in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 283673."

This will stop the MS-Blaster and it's varients from getting on the machine during this time period.
2. Install another Antivirus such as Free AVG from http://www.grisoft.com
This will replace NIS's AV until the modem driver is in place.
Bob
I have jut upgraded from 98SE to XP Home and I need to update my intenal modem driver.
When I extract the file from the ZIP files it unpacks it and then kicks off the Norton Security Installer which starts the download of the NIS exe file. NIS is already installed and working fine. As a result the driver never gets implemented.
Any suggestions please?
