Contrast aside, I would go with the Samsung A650; without knowing which W-series you are comparing it to. Samsung seems to constantly be ahead of Sony by a full generation when it comes to flat panels. They also do not command the Sony price ($200-$300 more for the same technology).
To further my car analogies, Samsung and Sony are like Lexus vs Toyota; pretty much the same technologies, but a Lexus is way nicer.
Ok, I am down to 2 tv sets i am really interested in and have read some topics in the forum.... The Samsung A650 and the Sony kdlW series. Sadly these are what I cant afford so can't really jump to A850 or Z series.. I asked around at CC,BB and sears and more people are saying the Samsung is better and they all point to the 20k more contrast ratio - one guy did mention the glossy screen which does look nice. None of them really said anything about the lag people here been talking about for gaming(even a gamer who plays through his PC on the samsung). I looked at both sets and the picture quality to me seems to give a slight edge to the samsung but if the lag is better on sony that might tip me to sony instead. So I am wondering if any owners here can rate on a 5 point scale on the following attributes:
Console Gaming:
PC gaming:
HD watching:
Clouding/flashlightning problem(5 means "no big deal"):
Or maybe suggest another set without the clouding/flashlightning problems?
