LNT4061 Persistant Info Window

Feb 19, 2009 12:37PM PST

I checked through most of the current threads but didn't anything like my problem listed.

Last weekend the 40 in. LCD set I've owned since Aug. 2007 began flashing the Menu screen, which could either be removed by clicking the Exit button on the remote or waiting 1-2 min when it would disappear by itself, temporarily at least.

The Menu screen would also reappear whenever the volume controls from either the Samsung or universal cable remote were pressed, or by itself periodically (every 5-10 min.). In addition the options on the screen would be highlighted, as if someone were constantly pressing on the down arrow button. Pressing up only halts it for a brief second before it resumes the downward scroll.

Just yesterday, the Menu screen has been replaced by the constant appearance of the Information window (with the square, green "i" icon) and the words "Not Available".

It should be noted that this occurs regardless of which signal source to the TV- Cable, DVD, or video game are all the same. Therefore I suspect this problem is isolated to the television.

I pulled the power and attempted a "reboot", and also pulled the batteries out of the remote (in case one or more buttons on the remote were stuck down). Neither had any effect.

Please advise if this may be related to the software level and a possible firmware upgrade could help fix this, or any other suggestions to remedy this annoying affliction.

Thanks

Not firmware... service...

cyclone91,

Welcome to the forum, and I'm sorry to hear that your set is giving you some trouble.

The symptoms you describe would suggest to me that there's an command either within the television itself or the remote that is causing this to happen. I might even go so far as to suggest that one of the channel buttons on the front of the television seems to be making contact (perhaps in the bezel). For instance, if you were watching an HDMI input, and pushed the "channel up" button, you would see "Not Available". I'm thinking you may have an oversensitive board setting that can be fixed.

I would recommend a service call to 800-SAMSUNG.

Good Call!

After reading your comments I investigated further and discovered that in fact one of the channel buttons on the bezel was stuck in place. Once I took care of that, the set was as good as new.

Thanks for the help!
