LN52B750 Yahoo Widget scaling question for Samsung_HD_Tech

Aug 1, 2009 6:47PM PDT

Apologies if this has been discussed, but a search was unsuccessful.

Is there a way to properly scale the playback of widget videos (Youtube, Yahoo, etc.)? Is it correct that Picture Sizing in the remote is disabled when using widgets? So far most of the Youtube videos play back incorrectly and are horizontally stretched, which is also the case with some of the Yahoo widget videos I've checked. The trailer for Julia & Julia played correctly.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? If not, do you know if a firmware update can fix this problem in addition to the other scaling issues previously mentioned here?

After almost one month I'm really quite happy (actually ecstatic) with the TV. I'm not wild about the lack of Mac support and the zoom issues, but am optimistic that these and the DLNA issue are just growing pains that will be remedied.

Thanks for your help.

LN52B750 Yahoo Widget scaling question for Samsung_HD_Tech
Aug 5, 2009 11:02AM PDT

lales27,

The widget will scale the movies as it's programmed to do. Some of the movies may be scaled improperly when they're uploaded, and unless the widget is programmed to compensate, it may end up as a horizontally stretched picture. At this point, I don't believe that there's anything you can do in the menatime to correct it (or anything to cause it, for that matter), but I'll be happy to pass that up.

Thanks for the response HD Tech, and thanks for passing it up the chain. I'm attaching links to some Youtube videos in question.

The first 3 videos below playback properly on my Macbook Pro AND its external 22" 16x9 video monitor, but do NOT display correctly on the LN52B750 as a Youtube Yahoo Widget. Also, as an additional test, the 2 Steve Morse videos are identical source footage, but from different uploads.

Maybe the problem is a widget related software issue from Yahoo, or perhaps as a previous poster suggests, its related to the incorrect pixel display by the Samsung. Still, I'm sorta surprised that I couldn't find any other posts on this problem. Surely I'm not the only one who's experiencing this.

Here is a RECENT Elvis Costello Youtubw video that DOES display correctly as a Yahoo Widget:

One other thing to pass along: unlike the regular Youtube site, there is no option in the Youtube Yahoo Widget to choose HQ. Should I presume that the widget makes the choice automatically?
