LN52A850 & Amazon Video on Demand

by expand36 / October 21, 2009 1:18 AM PDT

I have a Samsung LN52A850 that I have had for about 6 months. I have just noticed on Amazon that a lot of Samsung TVs support the Amazon Video on Demand service, but I don't see the LN52A850 listed.

Is there a firmware upgrade available or planed that will give LN52A850 owners this feature?

There is not a firmware update that will be adding this feature, unfortunately. The features for the Yahoo Widgets (available in the 2009 products) weren't available in 2008, so that feature itself will not be available on the 2008 televisions. This would include the LN52A850. However, the Samsung Blu-Ray players in 2009 do have this option, so if Pandora, Netflix, BlockBuster Video-on-demand or Youtube are widgets you'd like, you can still have those features - but they will be available on the Samsung Blu-Ray players.

Hope that helps.

LN52A850 Buyers are out of luck

I'm getting the strong impression from Samsung that they will not be providing future firmware updates for the 850/860 series. Which is really too bad since you bought their top-of-the-line TV, then they decide not to continue any development for it. Bet you'll think twice about buying another high-end Samsung.
