LN52A750 R1F Jutter when playing digital video

Mar 23, 2009 2:53PM PDT

Has anybody had trouble with jutter (between jitter and stutter)when streaming (DLNA) a VOB file, or playing it off a USB memory stick?
Manual says both should work. I am trying to determine whether this is a general design defect or a manufacturing defect in my particular TV, or maybe some combination of settings..... It was built in Jan09.

Parameters?
Mar 23, 2009 4:13PM PDT

What are the parameters of the video file you're trying to play?

What is:

1. The codec
2. The resolution
3. The audio codec?

Simple .VOB files off of a regular DVD

I think the manual says VOBs are MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio. I tried .VOB files off of a couple DVDs. I tried two different memory sticks. The sound seems OK thru the TV speakers. I stream Netflix through my Samsung BlueRay BP2550(6Mb cable)alright so my LAN seems OK.

Rather than "has anyone had problems" let me restate the question: Has anyone successfully played back standard .VOB files off of a standard DVD in WiselinkPro/DLNA either from a memory stick or Share Manager, directly to a Samsung LN52A750 TV?
Indications from no responses so far are: a. nobody has problems b. nobody has tried it c. nobody cares.
HD_Tech - I dont control what goes in a standard DVD VOB file. A computer or DVD player plays it fine. Your link looks like the page out of the manual, which says the TV should play a .VOB fine also.
Anyway, Thanks for your interest.

VOB Judder
Mar 26, 2009 3:05AM PDT

I have the same issue you have with my Samsung LN46A750. I just tried it last night and received the same "judder" results. I rip a DVD to my PC drive (single or multiple VOBs into TS_VIDEO folder), play it successfully with Vista Media Center on the PC, but notice a judder in the video (not the audio) when I try to use WiselinkPro/DLNA either from a Memory Stick or the Share Manager. AVI seems to work without issue.

I downloaded GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) to check the codecs of my particular VOB files and discovered that the resolution is the issue when ripping a DVD. The Samsung only allows for 1920x1080 for .VOB and, of course, a DVD is 720x480, so unless you have something to upconvert your DVD during the rip, the Samsung TV will not be able to smoothly play your movie via WiselinkPro/DLNA. Also, I renamed the VOB to mpg and the same issue applies - Only 1920x1080 is accepted by the Samsung for mpg.

Samsung_HD_Tech - is there a firmware update that will include this resolution (720x480) in the future?

Anyone - Is there a product to upconvert VOBs or upconvert a DVD rip?

Thanks

CJ_P,

It's hard to say at this point. I'll suggest it, but I'd caution on expecting it, and if it does happen, then it's a happy surprise.

Of course! I was afraid it was something like that. You are smarter and certainly more helpful than the Samsung tech guy, if he couldnt figure that out he needs to give it up.
It makes some convoluted sense that a HD TV would ONLY play HD files, ignoring the fact that 99.9% of the VOBs in existence today are not HD.
I dont know where to go from here. Sage TV? Samsung seems content to sell us a half baked product. There are plenty of good TVs to choose from. I bought this TV for its advertised DLNA capabilities. I feel disappointed, tricked .....cheated?
Thanks,
