ln52a630 vs ln52a650 hdtv

Feb 18, 2009 6:10AM PST

I am going to purchase a 52 inch hdtv and narrowed it down to either a ln52a630 or ln52a650. I heard that the only differences was the 630 has a matt or semi-matt screen vs clear screen on the 650, the resolution is lower on the 630 because of the screen, the stand is different, and there is one less hdmi plug in on the 630 model. I have seen very high expert reviews on the 650 but no reviews on the 630. The customer reviews I notice lean more towards the 630 because the screen is more reflective on the 650? I attempted to confirm the information through Samsung 800 number without success. The sales lady first would not answer any questions at all unless I provided my telephone number and full name, and she was not savvy on the TV'S. She told me that all of Samsung screens were the same which I highly doubt. Even though the expert ratings are very high on the 650, I am leaning more towards the 630 model because of the reflection on the 650. My question is, would the 630 model rank as high as the 650 model if the experts were to review it?

Also, is there any other difference in the operating system of these 2 televisions?

frsp911,

Welcome to the forum.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that our phone support was not helpful. I promise to never ask for your name, phone number - ever - and invite you to ask as many questions as you want. And I *am* knowledgable on the televisions (and other product lines except cell phones), and have a team of experts I work with to make sure our information is accurate.

Second of all, our screens are not the same. They can vary by Series, and even within specific series. So your first inclination was correct.

The LNxxA650 in the 40"+ sizes is the "more reflective" panel, which we call our SuperClear Panel. The A650 models will have a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. In a nutshell, it reflects the light away from the panel, discouraging ambient light from saturating the picture. As a result, the panel will produce an additiona 10,000:1 contrast ratio over the LNxxA630 models which will do 40,000:1 contrast ratio without the SuperClear Panel.

The A630 cabinet color is black, and the A650 has the TOC (Touch of Color) design.

The A650 also has InfoLink, which is USA Today's RSS feed for weather, news and stock information.

There is an extra HDMI on the A650 Series.

Both units have 120Hz AutoMotion Plus, 4ms response time, and 1080p.

I'm not sure how it would "rank" with reviews, since there are different grades given for different things. It would be speculation at best.

The better question to ask is how it best fits your needs in the room you're going to put it, and if it presents the best value for your solution.

Again, I welcome your questions. That's what we're here for.
