LN46A750 and DLNA

Nov 1, 2008 11:51AM PDT

Hi all,

I cannot get the DLNA function of my TV to work. I am connected through a Linksys BESFR41 router. The network test works and Infolink can access the RSS feeds, and I can also ping the TV from my computer, but I can't get them to talk to each other. I am running Windows XP SP2.

When I use PC Share Manager (1.4) I cannot see the TV in the device list. I have also tried using TVersity, TWonky, and WMP 11 and none of them work. When I press the W.Link button on the controller when the media server is active it immediately reads "No external device connected".

I have read through these forums several times and have seen similiar issues. A few seem to have gotten past the stage I'm at but I haven't figured out how they managed it. Am I trying to access the media server in the wrong area of the TV? Is there a specific port that needs to opened? I have seen this thread (http://forums.cnet.com/5208-13973_102-0.html?forumID=146&threadID=306945&messageID=2863426) but don't see any fixes there.

I am using firmware version 1008.2. I am hesitant to upgrade to the latest FW both because the notes on the new version don't mention DLNA changes and when I previously upgraded to the FW on Samsung's website it killed my product guide and content library (required a Samsung tech to replace the board).

I love the TV but the main reason I purchased the 750 over the 650 is for the DLNA and would be very disappointed if it doesn't work. Any help you can provide would be great appreciated. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks!

A few answers....

xeroabv,

When you say you're connecting through your router, are you referring to wired? Or wireless? I ask because PC Share must be wired in order to work.

I'm sorry to hear that you unit required service. For that issue, we will be, moving forward, allowing you to revert the television back to the previous version of the firmware so that future firmware updates can be "undone" in the event that the upgrade didn't perform satisfactorily. So keep your old firmware (the one you have now) seperate, and you can upgrade with confidence that you won't require another service call as a result.

Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply. It is a wired a router. As I said, I don't believe a firmware update will fix my issue as the notes don't mention anything about networking or DLNA so I am not too worried about that.

I've just bought a new 40 inches 750 series TV and I was capable of making the DNLA working for a few minutes.

I used Nero MediaHome 4 on my computer where my files are and it worked for 5 minutes. So in my case it's just a matter of making my connection working because my second computer is making the bridge between my wireless router and my wired TV.

Got it to work

Enabling "filter multicast" and UPnP in the router settings fixed it.

Nothing until router was re-configured then DLNA worked
Dec 11, 2008 12:21AM PST

I have a Samsung LN52A850. I installed PC Share Manager 1.4.2. For a few days, it had the usual symptom. I'd open Share|Set Device Policy and it would be empty. No TV.

I fiddled with Windows Firewall and did all kinds of things. Nothing worked.

Then, I went to the web page to configure my router (e.g. 192.168.42.1). I logged into my router and enabled both "UPnP" and "filter multicast" (they were in different pages). Right after I enabled "filter multicast", PC Share Manager found the TV. It showed it as:

192.168.42.7|SAMSUNG TV|Denied

Once I "undenied" the TV, I went to the TV itself and it showed a new item in the Source menu: "DLNA: WiseLink Pro". I could select the DLNA source and DLNA worked.

Also, I launched Windows Media Player 11 and clicked on "Library" in the black media bar, then selected the "Media Sharing" menu item. I re-enabled Windows Firewall and Windows Media Player fixed up some stuff. So, now I have both Windows Media Player and Samsung PC Share Manager working as DLNA servers.

So, when I go to my TV, I get two DLNA sources: the PC Share Manager one and the Windows Media Player one.

BTW, I didn't upgrade firmware. I'm still using the one that came with the TV.

i too have the same problem. the tv (ln55a950) does not show up on the "set device policy" screen. i have an old router - netgear rp114 and i don't see any filter multicast nor upnp options. btw the pc and the tv are both directly connected to the netgear box. i can ping the tv and the info (weather, sports, and news) work so i know it is "connected". any suggestions?
thanks.
