LN46A550 display issue

Dec 7, 2008 2:58PM PST

I just set up my new LN45A550 today. When viewing any channel, regular or HD, part of the program runs off the sides of the screen in 16:9 viewing mode. When I switch to 4:3, I still can't see the edges of the screen. It's a significant amount that I'm missing, as I just get the inside edges of the TV rating and the "bug" in the lower right hand side of the screen which displays the tag of the current channel (SciFi, etc.). I'm assuming this is a setting I can change somewhere?

Picture Mode
Dec 8, 2008 7:38AM PST

lwhalen618,

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you have the picture screen set to "wide" mode, or stretched out further than it should be. This is stretching out on both the right AND left side, correct?

You might want to make sure that the source (cable box, dvd player, etc) is set to 16x9 (or widescreen) aspect ratio, as well as check to make sure the television is showing a 16x9 (widescreen) aspect ratio.

You can do this by holding your remote and pressing:

Menu button > Picture > Size > 16:9. If it is currently on "zoom", then that may solve your problem. If that doesn't fix your problem, it may be a setting in your cable/sat box. If that's the case, a call to your cable/sat provider is a good next course of action.

Keep me posted!

It was a setting in the cable box. I didn't know about a settings menu that you access from the box itself when it's powered off. The aspect ratio was not set to 16:9.

I did have to call my cable provider to find the menu. Thanks for your suggestion!
