LN40B630 Dimming to a Dark Screen

Aug 20, 2009 11:42AM PDT

I purchased an LN40B630 a few weeks back and was very happy with the brightness of the screen after I first opened it up while viewing it in my great room alongside my LN52A650, but now that I've moved my LN40B630 to my bedroom inside an Armoire (tight fit), the screen is very dark. The LN40B630 appears to dim several levels automatically after 1st turning it on, as if it is adjusting the brightness of the screen relative to the darkness of the room. I've scoured through all of the menu's looking for some sort of auto dimming option, but am unable to find one. Please help!!!

LN40B630 Dimming to a Dark Screen

TechnoKub,

There is no auto-dimming feature that, say, would sense the amount of ambient light and adjust accordingly. It will dim itself if it senses no picture being delivered, and this is normal, and can be normal for starting the television as the picture searches for a signal. Once the picture starts, it should operate normally.

autodimming

Autodimming has been discussed in AVSforums.com and is evident in samsung Tvs unless your picture mode is set to "movie" mode. In "standard", "dynamic", "natural" you will experience autodimming when the tv detects mostly dark scenes. See avsforums.com for more info- hope this helps.

suspect autodimming on LN40B630 was actually energy save

OK... My bad. I had the energy save feature set to the maximum setting and that is the reason why my screen was dimming so much just a few seconds after powering up. Now that I've turned the energy save feature off, the screen is as bright as I've expected. It did take me a while to find the settings for energy save -- they were buried in one of the menu's. Thanx everyone.
