General discussion

LN32B540

I am in the market for a 32" tv for my recent college graduate. I read good things about the SamsungLN32A450 which is no longer available. I thought this newer model to be a good replacement but now I am reading that Samsung does not manufacture all their own screens and uses cheaper screens in some of their sets, selling them as the same models. I read to look for a version S,A or C (which you can only do by opening the boxes)

I saw this model at BJ's wholesale club for $549 and was going to purchase it and now am so confused. Can anyone help me out and tell me if this is a good purchase or should I look at something else?

i own the ln32a540 from costco

The model you are looking at ln32b540 is also available at costco
for the same price plus 90 day return and 2 year warranty. My ln32a540
accepts a 1080p signal but my ln32a450 does not (slight snow). I'm
happy with it and for the price you can't beat it. Take it home and try it - if you don't like it take it back. Don't drive yourself crazy
over panel version. By the way my ln32a540 was a version "s" panel.
Don't recall what version the panel was on the ln32a450. Good luck.

I posted a reply but it doesn't appear that it went thru so I will try again.

I am just learning about the HDTV's. You specificied that your Samsung does not accept a 1080p signal. What does the average person utilize that uses a 1080p signal? Is that a dvd? Or a normal television show?

Regarding the screen. I had read that the non-Samsung made screens suffered in quality in comparison.

Is there anything else I should be concerned with or an option I may need/want that this tv would not have?

Thanks!

blu-ray discs are 1080p

If there are no plans for blu-ray player than 720p should be fine
for hd cable (1080i) and dvd player. Computer monitor or gaming may be a different story. Lot's of fast action (maybe 120hz capable) in
gaming and computer's supporting full hd (1080p) resolution. Depends
on what you are primarily using it for. My ln32a540 (costco) (720p)
does accept (1080p) signal but my ln32a450 (bb) (720p) does not. I
have both tv's connected to samsung upconverting (1080p)dvd players
and 1 tv accepts the 1080p signal and 1 does not. Have to change the
dvd player to 1080i or less on the 1 setup. I'm not a gamer nor do i
have a computer hooked up to these tv's just cable and dvd player.
If that is what you are looking for than the ln32b540 will work just
fine.
