narfboy48,
For most recorded content on Vista, it should be able to play those files.
I'm not sure what speculation exists with the LN32A550, but according to our information, it is compatible.
Here is a list of specifications and a list of Samsung televisions that work with the MediaLive Extender.

You will need a tuner, or someway to import the content to your computer. There are several ways to do that, and I invite forum members to explain their successes.

I managed to get confused. I have a new LN32A550, which shows on the website the MR-00EA1 as an accessory.
What I want to do is use the feature of recording receiver content to my Vista computers on my home network, transfering the library to my HP Home Media Server and viewing the content from the library at a later time.
Somewhere along the line, doubts were raised that the LN32A550 and the MR-00EA1 play together. Can you clarify that?
Also, i understand I need an addition 'tuner'? Is that in the Vista computer or is it a cable card in the Medialive extender? If so, how do I get one? No such options are listed at Best Buy, for instance.
