LN-S4041D takes a long time to turn on

Apr 17, 2009 11:16PM PDT

My Samsung is steadily taking longer and longer to turn on. When I try to turn on tv after it has been not used like overnight it takes it 5 minutes or longer to power up and keeps on clicking before it will turn on. Sometimes it wil not turn on. It's been frustrating to say the least. Once it is "warm" it will turn off and on ok. Once it turns on it works fine. Tv is 2.5 years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated here. Thanks Jack

Don't be cheap and petty.
May 7, 2012 6:29PM PDT

I bashed the Samsung brand for a while until I realised how great their service is. I live in Connecticut and the local repair agent sat me down 1 day after I complained about trying to get a free of charge repair, he explained the warranty policy and made me realise that in future before I start complaining and demanding free stuff, I should find out what I qualify for. I felt somewhat guilty and embarrassed once I realised that I was being cheap and basically crying for what's not mine. Now I do my research so I don't have to deal with rejection and I always get what I ask for.
NB: Read your warranty card no matter the brand.

Having the same problem
Mar 17, 2010 10:43AM PDT

Samsung does need to recall these sets. When I contacted them they gave me a huge run around, and basically told me it wasn't their issue. I emailed them a complaint and if they do not own up to this I'm going to contact the better business bureau.

THANK YOU! I just called Samsung and they were very polite and helpful. They just need to verify that the TV is in the correct date range and they are sending somebody out in a few days to fix it for free after verifying my symptoms match the issue.

Free Capacitor Fix for My LN-T4042H Model TV
Oct 18, 2010 6:01AM PDT

I appreciate the advice to call Samsung directly (800.726.7864) to see if my set (LN-T4042H) qualified for their one-time free capacitor replacement fix. I called them on 10/13/10 and got through to a customer service rep (Tiffany) almost immediately. After providing her with my model and serial number she said my LCD TV did qualify for the free fix. She provided me with a Service Order number and the name and phone number of the authorized repair facility in my area (TK Electronics in Redmond WA). When I called them I was able to set the appointment for today(10/18/10). Their service tech, Juan, arrived promptly this morning as promised and told me he does at least two of these capacitor replacement fixes for Samsung every day and so it was no wonder he was able to have my TV fixed in 20 minutes. He was terrific. I would encourage anyone else having this same problem with their Sansung LCD TV (regardless of model number) to contact Samsung right away. THANK YOU Happy

I just called Samsung. I gave them the information. They said I DID qualify and that Repair Center will call me.

Why would you try to fix yourself when you can have done for Free!!!

Thanks so much for the information!

Good for you. Not so good for me

I called Samsung. They said they DO have a list of TVs that qualify for capacitor fix - but my plasma is not on the list. So, even if the technician says it is a capacitor fix issue, they won't do it for free. What a rip off!

When I insisted I talk to the supervisor, I was disconnected three times, and then I could have sworn it was the same lady who talked to me as a support-person talked to me claiming she was the supervisor. Same voice, tone, same argument about the "haloed" list to which my TV does not belong.

Can you imagine an American company like GE doing something like this?

I really don't want to mess with a solder in my TV, I will call the repairmen.

I was SO exicted to find this thread because it describes exactly what has been happening to my Samsung LCD (LNS4051DX/XAA) for the past couple weeks. I was even more excited to hear that Samsung was standing behind their product. Unfortunately when I called they said the capicitor problem did not effect my TV and so it must be something else. As I tried to explain that I was in fact experiencing exactly what everyone did, and asked to speak to someone else, the tech said sorry, we can't help you. Sorry Samsung, you lost a customer here. Any suggestions?

No dice on Free One Time Fix!
Nov 9, 2010 8:25AM PST

I called customer service (800.726.7864) and spoke with Marvin who apologized for the issue I'm having, however, my serial number falls "outside of the production range" that is covered with this one-time fix. When I asked about the date range that *IS* covered, he would not tell me what it was, just that mine was outside of it. I have the LN-T4042H and confirmed my production date was 2/2007.

When other people I knew saw my TV and liked the look and deal being offered at the time, I convinced THREE additional people to purchase this exact same model. Not one of them has had this issue (yet).

I did let Marvin know I had a hard time believing that within the same model (that has a very short shelf life before being replaced by the next, newest model) that different components were used which makes me even more upset that I was getting a bunk excuse as to why this wouldn't be covered by Samsung.

Marvin was nice enough to give me a local service company's number...who turned out to be in FLORIDA (I'm in upstate NY)! When he asked what I'd like him to do, I suggested he arrange to have my TV repaired at no charge, he said he couldn't do it, so I told him not to ask questions he wasn't prepared to answer. He thanked me for calling Samsung and suggested I have a good evening. Not likely. I'll call the service company and see if what they recommend and if maybe they can get this repaired by Samsung.

Nov 10, 2010 4:08AM PST

I had a similar issue when I called Customer Service (800-726-7864). I have a Samsung LCD television (model LN-S4052D)with similar problems: The television was taking up to 3-4 minutes to turn on and eventually it would not turn on at all. When I talked to customer service, I was told that my television was not a model that was covered for the one-time fix. The woman apologized for my misfortune and was prepared to let me go because it was out of her hands. I insisted that I be put in touch with someone higher up. She reluctantly made a claim number and connected me to Executive Customer Service. They were much more understanding and gave me a service order number for my one-time fix. They told me that if replacing the capacitors did not fix the problem, I would be responsible for the repair. You should give Marvin a call back.

Did you ever get the fix?
Nov 27, 2010 11:39PM PST

I have the same problem & called a few months back to try to get Samsung to fix it. Back then, I was told that my tv (LNT4042H) did not qualify. Not having the cash to call a repair tech, I just dealt with the fact that sometimes it could take up to 20 minutes for the tv to power up. Last night, after waiting over an hour for the thing to finally come on, I called Samsung again. This time, I was told my tv DOES qualify, and am waiting for a call from a service tech. I would say, if you haven't yet had the tv repaired, give them another call!!

Lost patience w/Samsung - fixed myself!
Nov 28, 2010 3:16AM PST

I ended up calling Samsung another time and just could not get any information out of them, nor would they offer to fix my TV. I let them know that as a young professional, not long from moving into a bigger house that WILL need new TVs, the cost of fixing my current TV will far outweigh their future losses when my TVs do not have the Samsung label on them. She said there was nothing she could do, so I once again let them know how terrible their service is and despite my satisfaction with their product for the first 3 years, I would not be purchasing their product moving forward. So...I moved ahead with making the repair myself.

I stopped by a local electronics shop and they wanted $4.95 per capacitor. I wanted to make sure I had the right capacitance, so I went home, took apart the TV and verified. I looked online (Allied Electronics) and bought them for .54 each for 5000hr rated caps instead of 2000hr. I bought 4 of each type just in case they didn't fit. So, I got 8 caps for $5 plus the shipping and handling. I ordered them on a Thursday and got them on Saturday....pretty sure they shipped out of Texas and I live in Upstate NY. I watched a few Youtube videos, both about this specific problem and about soldering and desoldering. 2 days later, I took it all apart, and made the repair myself. I had never in my life done any type of electrical soldering and it was quite easy, so don't be afraid. First time I powered it up - TV turned right on and I was in business! Thanks to all in this thread - it was a GREAT resource!

I think you should try again too
Jan 9, 2011 1:50AM PST

I have the same exact model and just got off the phone with a woman named Tara at 800-Samsung who said a one-time repair on the capacitors will be done at no charge. The closest repair company is in RI - I am in Ma - but I assume they will probably subcontract a local company to come and repair it. And of course, she added the caviat that if the repair person finds something else wrong with the TV, I will have to pay for the service call. I'll keep you posted!!

model not supported
Oct 3, 2011 5:08AM PDT

I just called in about my LN-S4051D (from 2006) that was having the EXACT same issue as you have all described, but Samsung claimed that only TVs made in 2007 and 2008 have had this issue. As a result, they said I did not qualify for the one time fix.

I followed jackamy's instructions and contacted this company and my brother in-law and i had it done in 30 minutes..
Allied Electronics in Largo FL had lots of them in 25 volt! Their part # is 852-7038. It's a bit larger but fits fine. Their phone # is (800)433-5700.
They overnight the product to me overnight at no charge, they were actually in Dallas.. Good Luck and I know it will work for you let us know.

Why bother fixing it yourself and take the chance of damaging it. If the repair man damages it, they or Samsung own the problem.

LN - S4041D not covered according to Samsung tech support...
Nov 6, 2010 12:41PM PDT

I called this evening with the same problem as the others... the tv turning on slower and slower with clicking noises, until eventually it just doesn't turn on anymore.

Samsung told me this model (LN-S4041D) is not supported for the "free" replacement service, but that the capacitor replacement does work in most cases. Looks like I'll try that route after all... can't be any worse since the tv is out of warranty. If it doesn't work I'll just have to have it done professionally anyway... none the worse off.

My Samsung LN-T4665F has exactly the same as Jack's problem
Oct 25, 2010 2:20AM PDT

My Samsung LN-T4665F has exactly the same problem described well by Jack in his message. When it's been off for a while and turned on the time it takes to click and bleep has been greater and increasing over the course of several months, such that now it takes up to 2 minutes for the TV to power up.

Sometimes when it finally does give a display we are seeing scattered purple pixels about the screen though this is cured by turning the TV off and back on again.

The power up time when it's warm is normal for this cycle, and it's quite apparent that this is a temperature related issue.

I'm a computer technician so if you could tell me where I might be able to buy the power supply for this model I'd like to replace it and see if that effects a cure.

Appreciatively,

Kurt

SO FRUSTRATING!

I have a 40 inch Samsung (model LN-T4042H) and mine has been doing it for about 3 weeks. TV repair shops seem to be a thing of the past. Mkaes me think the "nicer, newer" tvs are so much more "disposable".
If you find a fix...please share!

You need the capacitor fix
Nov 5, 2010 8:14AM PDT

Samsung does what they call a capacitor fix for free no matter how old is TV since it was a design flaw in that the capacitors used in the power supply were under capacity for the application.

You need only call Samsung on their 800 number and tell them that you need the free capacitor fix for your TV and they'll arrange it for you.

In my case they came out and fixed it the same day I called. It was done in 15 minutes and they changed 3 capacitors on the power supply.

Good luck.

Kurt

Odd.
Nov 5, 2010 10:09PM PDT

I found it to be the other issue of the stolen electrolyte formula. I didn't find it to be an issue of under capacity or over voltage.

But that rumor will tend to spread in spite of the facts found so far.

Model: LN-S4041D (40" Samsung Flatscreen)
Nov 14, 2010 8:44PM PST

I have called Samsung's support several times and have been told each time that this specific model does NOT fall under the "Free Capacitor Fix" list and they won't do anything for this TV. I called several times thinking maybe the support person didn't know - and then I called on a different day... each time being told that the LNS series did not qualify.

I did take the back panel off, looked at the capacitors and found the 10v (4 of them) capacitors were all bulging at the top - one actually cracked in the bulge. I simply took the circuit board off (6 screws) and will take it to an electronics shop to have them solder 4 new ones in. The actual capacitors themselves are only about $1 each if you buy them through an electronics distributor - so you can probably have the shop solder 4 new ones in for $30 - $40... or do it yourself. I noticed that this particular board has them crammed in together in pretty tight quarters - I don't want to solder things that close together and get it wrong.

I'll be taking it to a shop today and will see how much they really charge since I have done the "labor" part in getting the back panel off, and removing the circuit board. The rest should be about a 10 - 15 minute job.

Hope this helps...

Don

I have the same problem with my Samsung Plasma Model PN50A55
Nov 14, 2010 5:32AM PST

Looks liek a lot of people have this problem. Same symptoms for my TV: It got progressively worse. It keeps clicking on and off until it finally grabs the picture. It is the same with any source - be it DVD player or cable TV box. It is 2.5 years old and cost me $2300 when I bought it. Now I switch on the TV before goign for shower and it starts workign when I come back!

I called Samsung, they said nothign doing - the warranty has lapsed. They said they will have a local TV repair service call me - they even gave me a confirmation number. No one called. What lousey service!

Has anyone figured out the solution yet?
