Live Messenger sign-in problem.

by christy / May 28, 2009 12:04 AM PDT

I am using Windows Live Messenger with the “Plus” add-on.

For the past month after installation, I was able to sign in to Live Messenger without any problems. Recently, I started to get the “80072f78” error. The troubleshooter indicates a problem with “key ports…” (! Inside a yellow triangle). “Repair” does not solve the problem. Turning off Windows firewall and Zone Alarm does not help. This happens to 3 computers.

I am using Windows XP Pro SP3 and connects to the Internet wirelessly via a simple DSL home network. Sometimes, using dialup seems to solve the problem, but not always. Nothing have changed since installation of Live Messenger. I have used the disk cleanup to clear temp and internet temp files. Any ideas ? Thanks.

One reason you are getting those errors is that the sign-in time out because of slow ISP. If your ISP is applyig a contention ratio (sharing of bandwidth), then perhaps you are only getting a little of that, which can be slower than dialup ! Contact your ISP to see if they can connect you via a less congested exchange.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
