Live Mail-Windows7 import

Nov 26, 2009 12:19AM PST

First, for the record, let me just state again how much I despise Microsoft for making my computer life a NIGHTMARE the past several months. Thanks, Bill. As soon as I can afford a Macbook, it will be dosvidania forever.

Now then. I "upgraded" from Vista to 7. Got the Windows Live Mail. All of my contacts did not show up in the new mail (thought the messages transferred). I have a folder on my desktop about 1500 VCard email addresses. I see no function in LiveMail for importing them. What? How? Please help!

Also -- and this is really ridiculous -- where is there not a button to click in LiveMail to CHECK MY MAIL????????!!!!! Am I crazy or what? All I can do is set the stupid thing to check the mail every minute. Often I need to check it IMMEDIATELY. What am I missing here, I can't believe there didn't put a RECEIVE button in there.

One more thing...if I can't get this crap worked out, can I install OE in Windows7. (I'm guessing not, thanks again Bill) Is there some other email program out there that blows all this windows stuff away that I can download for free?

thanks for any help!!!!!!

Quick points...
Nov 27, 2009 1:45AM PST

1.) Bill left Microsoft to pursue philanthropy.

2.) You can [uurl=http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/windowsLiveMail/addressBooksAndContacts/importContacts.htm]click here for a guide to importing your contacts into Windows Live Mail.

3.) WLM largely uses the keyword Synchronize as opposed to Check Mail. You can customize the toolbar to add/remove buttons as desired.

4.) No, OE can only be installed on XP and below.

5.) The most popular free alternative is Thunderbird, from the creators of Firefox.

Hope this helps,
John

Philanthropy or not, Bill could send a memo downstairs, couldn't he???

He and Steve (Ballmer, the new head of Microsoft) have been friends and coworkers for nearly 30 years. But then again, after 30 years he likely is enjoying the break.

P.S. Synchronize was chosen to encompass all possible acts, including checking/downloading/sending mail, moving/deleting mail, creating/deleting folders, etc. Basically ensuring that the server is fully updated regarding any/all changes you made locally.
