Live feed From Digital Camera to Laptop?

was seeing if there is a way to hook up your Digital camera to your laptop to operate and record by the laptop. Reason for this is that I want to use it for immediate video analysis for track and field events, and I wanted to use high speed option, which I know some digital cameras have that option like the ex-f1. So I wanted to record to the laptopn and analyze it right after.
Got any solutions?

It takes special software that only works with some digital cameras.
