Can I ask why this issue was not listed in this discussion? And I see no mention of the itunes issue in the other thread.

Computer:
2.8 processor
512 ram
WinXP
Dual 40G hardrives (one for audio)
DVD drive: Liteon DVDRW LDW-451S
All drivers should be updated
Original problem: Started ripping CDs using Windows Media Player 10. The CDs are from the public library so there is a chance of damage. Other commercial CDs purchased were also ripped. Some CDs ripped, some did not.
Liteon tech support had me download the latest firmware. After doing so, the DVD drive no longer read DVD movies. Before the firmware update, there was never a problem with DVD movies. The problem with CD ripping remained; some CDs ripped, others did not.
The problem wasn't ripping. It couldn't play them either since Windows or Liteon could not read the disk.
I could not revert to the old firmware.
When I try to play a DVD movie, the green indicator light keeps flashing on and off at regular interviews. Apparently it is trying to read the disk. Once the disk is ejected, the light stops.
I use PowerDVD to watch DVD movies. This came bundled with the Liteon drive.
PowerDVD has been updated.
I suspect the Liteon drive is either an old one or a cheap one. Still, why would it play DVDs and then suddenly stop playing them, especially after a firmware update? And why can I read some CDs and not others?
I also strongly suspect it is, in fact, an old Liteon drive and I should probably get a new one.
Thanx for your help.
