Lite-on DVD RW SHW-160P6S

Sep 5, 2007 3:51AM PDT

I have just finished getting an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.01 Ghz system, with 1 GB of Ram built and running. Running XP Professional with SP2, I have the Lite On DVD RW and have upgraded the firmware. I have Cyberlink Power DVD XP. Computer recognizes the drive, but will not recognize when I insert a DVD, either a blank for writing or my fave movie. Any ideas as to what may be my problem and better yet how to fix it?

Thanks

Upgrading the firmware disables the bundled OEM versions of Cyberlink's DVD player. Try this. Install CDBURNERXP and see if it shows a DVDRW drive.

Thank you but......

As I said originally the computer will recognize the drive, so does any software that I use to accepss the drive, but it will not see that I have media in the drive. CD Burner XP Pro 3 sees the drive when I insert a DVD +R to be written to, it will not recognize it as being there and continues to ask me to insert media.

CyberLink Power DVD XP has the same problem, it sees the drive but not the media in the drive. It will not play media nor record to media in that drive. I also have a CD RW and that drive works just fine.

Then the drive has failed.

I had hoped for you to try it with CDBURNERXP but given what you've written I'd try a CD/DVD lens cleaner, retest (your way) and then change the drive.
