Question

listening to microphone output with a bluetooth earbud

Sep 19, 2017 6:38PM PDT

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me configure a system so that I can listen to output from a microphone to a bluetooth earbud. Everything I can find on my search involves using a computer and software. I won't have access to a computer while I am using this apparatus. Here's what I need:

I have a microphone that I can tape onto a patient. I want to plug this microphone into something that will let me listen to the output (patient heartbeat and breathing) with a bluetooth earbud. This way I can make sure the patient is breathing well and still move around the room during treatment. Can anyone help me? Would an amplifier or pre amp work? I am not familiar enough with them to know how to hook it up to work. Thanks so much!!

Answer
Something would have to turn the signal from the mic,

into something that a BlueTooth transmitter can handle.
Right now you have a BlueTooth receiver, the earbud, but nothing to transmit with.

Do a Google search for Bluetooth transmitter. Walmart (and MonoPrice) have them for a reasonable price.

All of the bluetooth transmitters I look at have an adapter to plug into a microphone or audio port. I can't use that. I need to plug the end of the microphone into something to transmit the sound. Is there a bluetooth transmitter that lets me plug the microphone in to then transmit to the earbud?

Not sure where the problem is here,

as the BT transmitter from Walmart, for $20.00, has a 3.5mm jack on it.
Presumably your microphone also has a 3.5mm jack on it.
How about using a Female/Female 3.5mm connect and plug the mic/BT transmitter into it?
Like this one for 28¢ from here: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=7185

You "may" need some sort of pre-amp but that is not unsolvable.

I think I see a problem.

Many med areas forbid this sort of equipment in fear of interfering with monitoring.

Time to talk to the hospital heads and IT to see what is allowed.

I am working in private offices. I already know the bluetooth doesn't interfere with my monitors.

You must test such gear out.

Aluratek's Universal Bluetooth Audio Transmitter is the perfect solution to add Bluetooth transmitting functionality to any audio output device with a 3.5 mm AUX OUT, headset output or RCA output jack. Transmit audio wirelessly from a TV, stereo, desktop computer, laptop, walkman, CD player, MP3 player or even a motorcycle to a Bluetooth enabled device like Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth earbuds and Bluetooth speakers.

Simply connect the transmitter directly or connect using the included 3.5 mm RCA Y-cable for the best desired set-up. The transmitter features volume control, power ON / OFF button and a built-in rechargeable battery so you can enjoy wireless audio transmitting up to 33 feet away from the transmitter for up to 10 hours on a full charge.
