listen to mp3 player on old shelf system

I like the new shelf systems that allow you to plug in an ipod or mp3 player but obviously am not willing to throw away my old shelf systems just for that feature. Has anyone came up with a way to convert an old unit so it will be compatable?

It's all about inputs

What sort of inputs does your 'old shelf system' have exactly(?) The iPod docks you see for sale will have rca jacks (red/white) that will plug into some older systems that will accept something via an 'aux' input setting.
