I use software (and free too!) like http://www.freeipodsoftware.com/ then I get all the good audio book features.

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to search on this forum, so will submit a question that may have been posted before.
I have a real frustration in being able to listen to MP3 format audio messages (think "recorded class lectures") while driving in the car. The problem with all my attempts (I won't go in to them in detail) is that I lose my place when I turn on/off the device. I'm almost never returned to the exact place I left off - at best within a few seconds, at worst further off. Most recently I tried using my Samsung cell phone. When I try to forward or reverse the message it often jumps to the next message.
Also, I have a problem with volume - I have to put the device in my collar so it's near enough to my ear to hear.
So - can anyone suggest a solution for this need? I'm looking for something REALLY simple and hopefully INEXPENSIVE. I don't even want to listen to music, radio, or anything. I can make do on the volume if I plug it into this unit I have that plugs into the tape cartridge unit. The important thing is that the device picks up EXACTLY where it left off.
Can anyone help on this? Much obliged!
