Later after trying this I pulled its plug.

I had an all too similar machine and it was not cost effective since it pulled 150 Watts 24x7. I pulled it's plug and installed a little 2 Watt device that I plugged an USB hard drive into. Here's what I got for 25 bucks -> GMFPSU22W6 at http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GMFPSU22W6&cat=PRN

That's not nearly the power draw of a full PC.
