I have installed Mandriva Linux on my Pavilion dv1000. Most of the stuffs work quite well. The only thing I cant get to work so far is the row of shortcut keys on top on the keyboard.

The other problem I am having is short battery life. I could only get 1hr plus on battery running linux as compared to 3 hrs on windows. If anyone could tell me y pls email me at

A good resource to read about different linux distros and how they compare under different environments is

If you do a search for "HP pavilion dv1000" on you will find a few threads relevant to your question;

I would personally recommend debian sarge.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
