Resolved Question

Linux in a Win8 World?

Jul 20, 2012 4:43PM PDT

Win8 boards will be here soon.

What is the effect going to be on serious users and Distrohoppers?

Net Cafes? Hotels? I don't fancy using their (potentially) Malware infested, keylogging machines! Win8 Mobo, how do I tell?
Can I use US DoD LPS? Instant WebKiosk?

Ubuntu will have some kind of official security workaround.
I install Ubuntu on a Win8 board I bought, (hypothetically).
If I decide I want something lighter, Tinycore,Slitaz, Puppy or just a Live USB, what then?

PS Don't get me wrong, typing this on a Win7 machine.
Not a "Hater", just prefer free(dom) of Linux!

Either ARM or X86

Either ARM or X86 boards?
I have a Raspberry Pi, awaiting VIA APC.
Debian and Android

What I want to know is what happens when UEFI boards become the norm??
In a practical non-aligned sense, (some of these posts have been from a Win7 Dell,
currently on an Exprimo Puppy distro running in RAM).

I can run Chromium / Firefox on both or many more.

Look to the past for a glimpse of the future.
Jul 21, 2012 2:37AM PDT

As you can tell, ARM boards never took off. There were some standard ATX style ARM CPU boards and you remember what happened to those.

And there was a flirtation with TPM and you see where that went. So why not look to the past to see what will happen?

-> If you want to buy a locked down machine, then you will do so. But the past does tell us more than enough to guess what will happen.

By the way.

This reminds me of those that need to stir the pot up. You can vote with your wallet. So far MSFT appears to be willing to gamble the company's future on Windows 8.

I think Windows 9 is going to be great and 8 will be another Vista at this point. They seem to be upset with anyone that thinks otherwise and have been known to say that Vista would have been OK if it wasn't for the press.
