Linux for 8 year old system

Apr 29, 2005 6:29PM PDT

I have an old "windows 98 era" computer that I upgraded to windows XP, and it works! ... but its a lot slower than windows 98. I want to install Linux on it hoping it will be easier on my computer. Which distro and version do y'all recommend for my dinosaur? For the record, it's a AMD K6-2 (pentium II equivalent) 300MHz, 128mb ram, tiny 4GB HDD. I need to bring this computer back to life!

Boot a KNOPPIX CD on that.

I've run KNOPPIX on as little as 96MB and it did work.

Suse 9.2 and many other distros do work on such hardware. I can't assure you that your modem will work but many things just work.
