I can;t get it to run on my current compaq or the emachines t5026. Neither knoppix or linspire. However, both will run fine on an 4 year old compaq PIII.
Has anyone tried to install the lastest version of Linspire 5 on a Compaq computer, specifically the SR1010NX? I have tried numerous times, redownloading and burning new cd's each time and always fail.
IF you are familar with Linspire 5, when you boot off of the install CD it pulls up a menu with three choices Run Live, Install to HD, and Diagnostics and in all three cases, it fails after the choice is made.
My assumption is it has something to do with ACPI because with other distro's Knoppix, Xandros, Ubunto, Puppy; they all start out with command line options that if I use the switch ACPI=OFF they run live or install fine, yet Linspire 5 doesnt offer this capability, or at least not that I can find.
The strangest part of this whole ordeal is I had Linspire 4 working fine on it, and then when I tried upgrading/installing 5 it failed and 4 would no longer run. I have an older Compaq that also fails, yet my Dell and home built PC's work fine.
I have contacted Linspire to no avail, as well as Compaq who is only willing to support what was installed on the machine. I have asked them that I wanted just to know if I can turn ACPI off in the Bios, but they refuse to answer this question. Anyone know who makes the mother board for Compaq for this model?
Any help or thoughts any one might have are greatly appreciated as I ride out the hurricane in Houston.
