Linksys WVC11B problems...

Sep 12, 2005 12:37AM PDT

I've installed a Linksys WVC11B camera in my home via a wireless network, and it works just fine, as long as I'm at home viewing it through one of the two computers on the network.

However, when I type in my IP address, and the port number into IE, the page won't load up. I've checked my router, and I have port forwarding, with port 1024 enabled.

I spent 4 hours on the phone with Linksys, and then sent the camera back for a new one (they thought it might be a hardware problem). Needless to say, the second camera doesn't work any better.

Could this be a problem with my ISP (Mediacom Cable)? Is there a way they can block a request from being routed to my camera?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It seems like a routing issue, but I can't answer what your ISP may be doing.

DCOM Port

Thats a DCOM port - maybe you should stay away from opening it up to the outside world.
Try a different port -maybe these guys can help:

If you really want to see why you should stay away from certain ports then download wall watcher at http://www.wallwatcher.com/.

I guarantee that you will see port 1024 (and the adjacent ports) hit by hackers (usually a chinese IP) several times in an hour. Get ready for a shock.

I did help a friend out who had the same problem with his Dlink camera and the problem was port related.

Long and short of it - if it works on port 80 then heck you should be able to find another port that doesnt conflct with anything or has high hacking traffic.

Try somethin really high up, jeez you could go as high as 65535
