Linksys Wireless B Router with Mac?

Jul 22, 2005 12:35AM PDT

Hi,

I have a Linksys Wireless-B 2.4GHz Broadband Router that I am trying to use with my eMac. The installation software provided with the router does not seem to be compatible with the eMac because it will not run.

Any advice as to whether this is compatible with OsX and whether there is installation software available?

Thank you!

It's compatible.

But there are far too few details to comment in depth. Here's the common issues:

1. The router firmware is out of date. Hint: Only update with wired connections as per the instructions.

2. Many attemp WEP, WPA on the first try. Hint: don't.

Installation Software

The installation software provided on the CD that came with the router is a PC only file and will not run on the Mac. (It has a file extension of .exe)
However, the instruction manual that came with the router should also give step by step instructions on how to set it up.
The router is usually accessed by a computer directly connected to the router with Ethernet cable, using Safari or Internet Explorer. Linksys has not quite got its act together yet with Safari so I would try IE first. http://192.168.1.100 (or a number that looks like that. Check the instructions) should put you in contact with the router and enable you to continue the setup process from there.
It is not really feasible to configure the router using a wireless computer.
Bottom line. The router is compatible and you do not need actual installation software. Just the ability to read.

Hope this helps
