I read a post.
I click on answer.
I put a link in my answer.
I click on preview.
I click on my link.....just to be sure it works.
It does NOT.
I submit my post.
I read my post and click on my link.
It now works........hmmm.

Comforting.....but

How about using the managerial muscle that comes with that gendarme badge and fix it.

Not possible.

You can alert your post to send up more feedback but why things are the way they are is covered in prior discussions. I can sum it up in one sentence. "It's the money."

Besides, it's not totally broken. Just annoying.

It works here...

I just tried it a few different ways and it always seems to work here, also in Firefox 5 on Windows 7. What am I missing?

Yep, that's it...

In my test, I posted simple links like http://www.cnet.com - I didn't include an ampersand. That's still a known issue, which affects links as well, something I didn't think of previously.

I think that raises the priority a bit since links with multiple query params cannot be previewed.

May have happened to me for a while
Jul 10, 2011 8:58PM PDT

but slightly differently.

I use BBS codes a lot to include a 'named link', eg, (using curly brackets instead of square brackets so they display in this post);

{url http://www.google.com}{b}Google{/b}{/url} and this 'should' display as Google

I always check my links in Preview before Submitting, but for a while I noticed these were not working. I never hit Submit when I found that, so I can't say if a submitted post worked or not.

But when I examined the post again in Edit, I noticed an extra space had been added after the {url and the pasted link. eg, using tilde to denote spaces as the forum's editor removes all but one space;

{url~~http://www.google.com}{b}Google{/b}{/url}

I could either delete one space, or forget BBS. But like I say, this only occurred for a while and it seems OK now, although I still see the extra space in BBS after pasting a link.

Test: Google UK - Returning to Edit I still see an extra space.

Update. The trailing slash issue.

If the forum mangles your link, try it again but add a trailing slash or /
