Link Scanner 2.7.2

Nov 4, 2008 10:18AM PST

I downloaded and installed Link Scanner 2.7.2 that is suppose to work with Firefox. It shows that the plugin is installed but nothing shows when I do a search. I'm using the stand alone version of Link Scanner.
I am using AVAST antivirus and not AVG. Any suggestions????

When You

When you install that file it adds it to the Firefox addon list
but it doesn't work. Link Scanner worked fine with Firefox until it went to 3.0 and up versions. I don't know why it says it will work.

That's not going to help. I paid for the Pro version and still have over 100 days left.

Just a comment..

but a rather long one .. Blush

AFAIC .. the information about LinkScanner Pro and FF3 seems to be confusing. (I do understand you're not using AVG) According to Exploit Prevention Lab's KnowledgeBase - Article 182, it reads:

Firefox 3 and LinkScanner

We are currently working on implementing support for Firefox3 into LinkScanner. The version of LinkScanner that is provided with AVGv8, will have Firefox 3 support in its' next release, scheduled for June 2008. The standalone version of LinkScanner will be updated shortly afterwards, however we do not have a definitive release date, at this time.'

The above was written on May 28, 2008. According to the Release History for LinkScanner Pro, the only version released after August, 2007 was your version 2.7.2 on July 28, 2008. It might lead one to believe, if the standalone version was to be updated shortly afterwards, it has yet to be. Confused

If you don't find the above confusing, maybe you can make some sense of this?

On Exploit Prevention Labs Support page for the standalone scanner, there's a paragraph titled "Known Issues". It's for FF3 and LinkScanner, which directs you to AVG's site. If you then go to AVG's LinkScanner FAQ #1458 (which "seems" to be current), it reads:

AVG Toolbar may not be compatible with Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1
The AVG Toolbar may report to be incompatible with the recently released Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.1. A fix for this issue is currently being prepared and will be part of the upcoming program update.

Again, I realize you're not using LinkScanner with AVG, but my guess is, it's not compatible with FF3. I may be wrong. But, if I were you, I'd contact them and ask if it IS supposed to work with FF3. And if so, "how". Otherwise, I'd ask for my money back! Choice is yours. Try either of these, if not both:

Needless to say, I wish you the best of luck..

Sent A Message

Thanks for the reply. I sent a long message on their support form and hopefully they will be able to answer my question. I've lost several months already because Link Scanner wouldn't work with thew newer versions of Firefox.

Good for you!

You're welcome. According to what I previously read, they "say" they respond within 48 hours. I do hope, if it turns out they're not compatible, they will "do the right thing" by sending you a refund, be it partial or complete. Good luck with it.

Questions
Nov 6, 2008 4:05AM PST

Their support contacted me and ask me 5 questions relating to the
problem I was having. I'm waiting to hear back on what they have to
say about my answers. They were also nice enough to extend my license for another 6 months.

I hope it's straightened out, in the same time frame it took for them to get back to you. Quickly! Looks like a good sign. I'm curious to know if they consider it your problem, or their problem. In other words .. are the two compatible.

Let us know how it turns out..

Not much help yet?

moranacus..

I would hope this means they're continuing to work on it. The best I could find was an article posted on a blog, where someone commented (last August), that the incompatibility issue with FF3 had been addressed. There's also mention made of LS Pro and FF3 at the beginning of the article. Whether the information is of value to you, I don't know, but highly doubt it. I was unable to find very much.

You said you had no problems prior to installing FF3. Is it possible you installed something since, which could be causing a conflict? Even though you're using Avast, it may be worth looking through some threads at AVG's designated Link Scanner Issues forum. It's a shot in the dark, but you might stumble upon some information relevant to you. Confused I presume you tried re-installing the plug-in.

I'll leave the guesswork up to them. I hope they get it straightened out soon. For them to extend your subscription 6 more months, isn't going to do you very much good, if you're unable to use it. Obviously, something I don't need to tell you. ( Devil )

I wish you the best of luck..
