Link laptop with wifi connect to pc

I'm trying to use my laptops wifi connection on my pc.
Laptop is a dell xps, service pack 2, w/vista home and windows 8.
PC is a gateway w/windows xp, service pack 3, with a intel(R) pro/100 VE adapter.
Question: can I hook the two together with an ethernet straight cable and get the laptops wireless connection on the pc? If so does anybody have a link for step by step instructions?

It's called ICS . . .

and it's a total PITA to configure. A simple solution is to get a router.

(repeat)

ICS is what that is and today, such a pain to configure that no one wants to discuss it.
