Line-out facility to active speakers or hi-fi

Am on the point of buying my first MP3 player, probably the Creative Zen 20gb. I assume that the (passive) headphone is driven from the Zen's internal amplifier, which is fine as far as it goes. On the other hand I may wish to drive active loudspeakers from a signal-only output for higher fidelity - or would it make all that much difference? If it does, are there any MP3 players offering a separate line-out socket. Being new to this game I'd appreciate any help.
