Why are single chip camcorders usually more sensitive to low light than similar chip size and optics of three chip camcorders? Is it due to light loss in the prism or the particular filter in front of the chip? Usually the difference is in order of 1-1/2 to 2f stops, which points to color filtration.
Three chip cams (consumer models) have a minimum acceptable level around 15 Lux where the single chip can be about 5 Lux or lower.
