General discussion

LG VX6100

Oct 27, 2004 9:44AM PDT

Does anyone know where you can download new ringtones, wallpaper and games for this new model? The sites I have been to don't have this model # listed, can you use another model #? Also, for people who have been using the phone, what do you think of the reception, voice clarity and speakerphone clarity? Battery life? Does anyone else's phone get warm after talking on it for a while? Thanks.

I just got my phone yesterday...very disappointed with the lack of applications available on Get It Now. I spoke with Verizon, they seem to think more applications may become available over the next few weeks.

Does anyone know if there is a USB/software link available to download or sync directly with a PC?

No listing for the LG VX-6100. So I guess you can't get cables or anything else for this phone on this site.

CyndieJ (open to all)

Is there a successful way to accomplish this? I am in the same position as CyndieJ, looking to download pics directly to my PC but also looking to manage dates in my calendar. I was very disappointed in Verizon's policy to block these features. Nothing like paying for features you can't use...

I found several different versions (USB/software link) on ebay. I don't know if games can be uploaded, but they all allow pictures to be downloaded.

I had the same Pix/Data/Phone Book problem but found that Data Pilot did the trick. It will download and upload your pixs to your computer and allow some creativity. Has other utilities included for sync with Palm Pilot names or transfer your names from an old phone. I did check with E-Bay and found many other download solutions. The key here is the DATA CABLE to connect between your cell phone and the computer. I heard that RADIO SHACK stocks the needed cable.

goodstuff2001,

I hate to ask the preverbal stupid question, but can you tell me how to set the call alert to vibrate only. I just picked up the phone last night and can't seem to find it anywhere in the manual.

Also, how do you like the 6100 so far? I just returned the LG7000 because of the inability to turn off the disco lights on front. I really liked the 7000, but the disco lights were very inappropriate for a professional workplace.

Thanks in advance for you input on the 6100's vibrate only instructions.

Mark

To go to vibrate mode, hold down the * key. If you hold it down again, it will go back to normal mode. I've had this phone for a few days and it works great so far.

Thanks for the shortcut to the vibrate switch. So far, everything is working great on mine too. I started out with the 7000 and traded for this one.

Mark, I just bought this phone too. To set it to vibrate, hold down the * (star) symbol about 2 seconds and it turns it to "manner mode" which is vibrate... to undo it, do the same thing again.

How do I like the phone? I like alot of the features but the voice activated dial is the pits. It has a male digital voice which cannot understand any but the simplest words... if I say mom, it can dial mom, but if I say for instance, Marcy, it cannot understand that... I already took one phone back that was defective. This second one still doesnt understand voice commands. I hear this is the future of cell phones - Pretty dreadful improvement.

Thanks for the info on the vibrate switch. Mine seems to be doing ok. I started out with the 7000, but returned it because of the inability to turn off the call alert lights (disco lights). They were just too annoying for my workplace. It's a shame they left that out. I really hated to trade it, because I really liked everything else about it. I haven't been too deep into the 6100 yet. I'll play with the voice commands this weekend. Thanks again for your input.

See my reply to mark. Yes the phone gets warm after talking on it a while. My main complaint is the voice activated dialing - it is totally useless. I use voice activated dialing exclusively and this feature is worse than the technology I had on my 2 yr old LG 4100... I may turn this one in and go back to the old phone.

How's the phone otherwise? Have you encountered the "volume bug" on incoming calls? General reception? Ease of switching to analog?

I am having the same problem. I thought was just my phone (defective/user error). Then my wife stated her phone (same make & model) was experiencing the same problem (bug). Does anyone know of:
a) Recall on model?
b) Resolution to problem?
c) Is LG/Verizonwireless doing anything about it?

there is a software update
Feb 10, 2005 3:05AM PST

i know your post was awhile ago, but in case you haven't heard, there is a software update. you can't use the *228 update feature because this is too big.

it takes around 40 minutes at the Verizon store including download and reload of all your data (pictures, phone #'s etc).

it seems to have corrected the volume bug for me.
