LG VX5200 - voice recognition issue

I am using the subject phone for a trial 15-day period. I'm having difficulty with the voice recognition. It may be me, I'm not sure.

When I say a name, it may, or may not find the name, and then when the name is repeated it cuts out before the entire name is said.. Jan, for example... comes out Ja. When the recorded voice announces the names I swear I hear a foreign accent in the recorded voice. Could that be an issue?

I don't have a speech impediment so it's not me, at least I don't think it's me.

Anyone else experiencing difficulty with this?

This all sounds nutty when I read it, but that's what is happening.
