LG TV Soap Opera Effect when viewing movies via USB port

I've successfully disabled the TruMotion feature on my LG TV to get rid of the soap opera effect, and while my streaming shows and DVDs now look fine, I still get the soap opera effect when viewing movies on a portable hard drive plugged into the TV via USB. Does anyone know if there is another setting or workaround for this?
