LG TV - Randomly powers off / Unable to join wifi

Mar 19, 2020 5:03PM PDT

I have a LG TV, Model 55LH575A, that randomly powers off then on while you are watching it. And also the wifi is intermittent - very frustrating...

I verified the time was accurate and also shutoff the smart setting. tried numerous re-boots, etc...

There is a thread on the LG website which suggests to take off the back and straighten out some of the ribbon cables which were pinched. I tried that (did not see any cable that was pinched), but also took off the power board to see if there were any bulging capacitors or bad solder joints. It all looked good, but I did notice where the screws held the power board down, there were points that looked a little corroded. So I scraped both sides off and reinstalled the board. I also pushed on the ribbon cable connectors (the wi-fi ribbon connector attachment was a little skewed) I put the back on and attached the power - presto - everything is fixed!

I tried to join the LG board and respond with my findings - but I never received the confirmation email to join the website blog. Anyway, I hope this helps - as an electrical engineer, I know that poor grounds can cause strange problems...

If ya'll need any help - let me know!

Lg TV powers off on it's own
Mar 20, 2020 5:59PM PDT

This is a common trouble with many of the LG TV's. Many will also go to a welcome prompt and no more. It happens to be a trouble with their wave solder and the solder that they use. I have a friends LG that went to welcome screen all the time. The fix was to pull out the main board and remove the metal mount on it. I then heated an oven to 385 and placed the board on a piece of cardboard in the oven for 10 minutes and cook it. Then remove it and let it cool for another 10 minutes. All it has done is fix the cold solders by wave soldering it. Look on Youtube for tutorials and they will explain the same thing. You can go on Ebay and search on your specific main board number , you have to look at the main board number not just the TV model number because there is multiple variations even on the same model number and you will find a company the you can send the board to. For about $100 they then resolder the entire board with better denser solder and guarantee the work.
