Question

LG OLED no audio over ARC when using apps

by SeanyboyCA / January 30, 2018 11:26 PM PST

New LG OLED C7 with HDMI ArC connected to Marantz AVR about 5 years old. AVR can handle DD+/TrueHD but not Atmos. Marantz is hub. TV Sound set to HDMI ArC with Simplink on and digital sound to auto. On AVR HDMI control is on. AVR recognizes DD+ signal from TV l, and all I get is clicky staticy noise. No audio from content. If I am just viewing Netflix landing page with stereo I get audio. If I change TV audio to PCM output l, I get stereo audio but can’t get DD+/5.1 Audio when watching the Crown for example. Just replaced HDMI cables thinking that could be issue and no luck. Reset TV to factory settings and no luck.

Use Simplink on HDMI cable from ST300 to HDMI 3. You can set up all connections in the LG Device Manager (smart menu).

Same bug with 3 different OLED
by Goforce / February 17, 2018 10:34 AM PST

Hello,

I have the same problem with 2 OLED55C7V (using them on PC) and 1 OLED77G7V (manufactured in January 2018) with the latest firmware 04.70.65.

Tested with marantz SR5008, SR6012, Denon AVR-X4300H and Denon AVR-X4400H.

Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby True HD from the TV (internal app) or from bitstream with HDMI 1/3/4 is not working, I get the clicky noise but DD+ si displayed on the receiver. (the app of netflix is using DD+ for the 5.1)

Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS HD MA/HR are working from the internal app or HDMI 1/3/4 but it's only displayed "Dolby digital or DTS" on the receiver.

I think that every LG OLED from 2017 has this bug with firmware 04.XX.XX since it was working fine with firmware 03.XX.XX.

Did you contacted LG about this bug ?

I contacted them yesterday but it's the week-end so no answer before 19/02.

No Audio ARC LG OLED TV - Onkyo TX-RZ3100 Amp
by lemach / February 28, 2018 1:02 AM PST

My config: LG OLEDC7V HDMI 2.0A cable, Onkyo TX-RZ3100 amp. Normally top ... The ARC worked well then for 1 week no sound when I'm in TV mode, reading files or Netflix, Amazon Prime etc ... As if nothing was coming out of the TV. My amp tells me that sound coming from TV is "analog" ... I've reseted the TV; disconnected from the electric current TV and amp during 6h, changed cable, nothing works... I do not know which of the 2 is at the origin of the problem and it annoys me to the highest point. Even the last update of the TV did not change anything ... Does anyone have a solution?

thank you

Try this

I have more or less same set up (LG OLED TV and Onkyo Amp - with ARC cable from ARC port on TV to main HDMI port amp). The apps (Amazon/Netflix etc) through the TV work fine with audio and video one day and then the next day video works but no audio - with the audio from the sat box still coming through. Very frustrating. So again this morning I went into the amp settings and the did initial set up, but skipped it all until it got to ARC settings and then said yes to that. Plus then went back into TV settings and sound settings and ensured the ARC and Simplink were the chosen digital sound. Then it all works again. But why it keeps needing me to do that I have no clue!

Guys, stop using ARC. Use toslink

You aren’t missing anything except the extensive bugs and headaches of the overengineered and poorly implemented ARC standard. Truth be told, most shows only offer 5.1 anyway. DD plus is marketing hype. Good audio surround starts with a more reliable source than an HDTV.

"Doc, it hurst when I do this?"

We all know the answer to that joke. ARC is OK when it works. When it doesn't which is often enough that folk I know in the service industry will NEVER commit to it working or being able to fix it will always carry in spare TOS (optical) cables to set it up and make it work.

Tip: If you have this work done, take pictures and notes about the settings.
