While I have had no problem here I did encounter a batch of cables that were very cheap. They did charge but failed for use with Android Studio. Something wasn't up to snuff with the cable as to data.

For now, all the USB cables I've used do charge.

So you think using a G 5 cable on a G 6 phone will probably work??

For charging? Yes.

The only downside could be the speed of charging but for HDMI, most USB cables these are fungible items. As noted the only time I ran into any issue was the ultracheap get 10 for 10 buck bundle. They charged but failed for heavy data use.
