Where are you shopping?
Hi all. I'm trying to choose a phone and I think I have narrowed down the options to LG G3 and BQ Aquaris M5.5 (although I am open to other possibilities).
Both have versions with 3GB of RAM, upgradeable/upgraded to Android Marshmallow, 5.5" screen, and are very similar in most regards.
The main differences are:
BQ Aquaris M5.5:
- Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53
- Adreno 405
- Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615
VS LG G3:
- Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400
- Adreno 330
- Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801
The processor and chipset from LG G3 seem to be better. Most applications will not use the 8 cores and the 8xx series sounds better than the 6xx series.
For the graphics, I don't care much. I will not use the phone to play, but to use some applications like GMail, Pocket, YouTube, and Twitter, which may be more resource intensive than many people think.
On the other hand, the bottleneck for performance does not need to be the processor, i.e. performance may be better for the BQ than the LG. The BQ Aquaris has been released more recently, therefore the processor and chipset may incorporate something new, like faster transfer speeds for data or bigger caches (L1 and L2) for the CPU, which may make the phone more fluid, despite of the lower freq for the processor.
Knowing that I could be spending much more on a phone, and getting better performance, I would really like to not spend much more and get the most future proof phone that I can (comfortably) afford at the moment.
PS: WRT other possibilities, characteristics are: NFC needed, screen from 5" to 6", be as future proof as feasible for the price, price should be around €300 (these two are already slightly up that number, should be below €350 in any case).
Thank you all. If you know of a better place to ask this kind of questions please do not hesitate to let me know.
